Wonderful 2 album scrapbook of a cruise to Alaska on the S.S. Alaska of the Alaska Line in July of 1936. A mother and her young son took an exciting trip to Alaska and she documented the momentous occasion by writing a journal and creating a scrapbook which spanned two volumes. She collected pressed flowers, luggage tags, her ticket, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, color postcards, real photo postcards , commercial photos and her own snapshots and enclosed them in two loose leaf 12 x 10 1/2 inch scrap books. The trip made stops at the following ports of call: Matanuska Valley, Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, Columbia Glacier, Cordova, Juneau, Petersburg, Wrangell and Ketchican. One album is 52 pages covered front and back and the other has 33 pages covered front and back. The first album has quite a bit of text. The photo shown is of a couple of pages in the second volume. I counted 50 real photo postcards. At least 32 of them were mounted using photo corners but the others were glued to the pages. T are about 70 commercially purchased and snapshot photos in small format. Almost all of these ar glued to the pages. Weight of both books is over 7 pounds. I believe these will fit into a flat rate priority box. Quaint scrapbook journal creating a window to an Alaska adventure in July 1936.
