Vintage Childrens School Desk Chair. Made by none other than American Seating Company of Grand Rapids Michigan. This is a number 17. See second to last picture. Company logo stamped into front right hand corner of wooden seats frame. See last picture. The story is , I aquired them from a Prebstyerian Church in the city about 45 minutes away from here. Neatly stacked in a finished climate controlled basement. It looks like this one and all the other ones going up for sale here this day 2/25/11 were used exclusively by the church for Bible study. I`m blown away by the condition of thses chairs/desks. Usually , and I have a couple examples for sale myself , these pieces are marred to one degree or another by ~artists ~ with graffitti. That and gum and boogers on the undersides of the chairs and desks. Betcha thought being a collectible hunter was all glamorous didn`t you ? Think again. Think yet again when it`s your turn to scrape 50 year old boogers off the underside of one of these. Laden with weird diseases of old , Pertussiss , smallpox, hysteria, etc. etc. None of that , or extremely little of that whatsoever on any single chair from this lot, including this one. The pastor or his aides must`ve been a tough no nonsense bunch of instructors. No graffitti or grafilthy at all. The original blue paint on the steel has worn read more
