Mounted into gold gilt and oval in profile, the carving is exquisite and exceedingly refined. The detailing is about as good as one will ever achieve with masterfully executed artistry from the mid to late Victorian Era. Each of these lovely ladies is richly detailed with distinct differences such as hair styling and facial expressions that make them unique individuals. They all have billowy gowns that gently wisp around their delicate legs and arms arched gracefully above their heads holding a crown of laurel leaves. This is undoubtedly a glorious depiction of the Three Graces, which are three of Apollo's nine muses of art and science. The cameo shell is a rich, deep amber color and when held up to the light, one can see the silhouettes of the porcelain skinned beauties through from the front. As you can see from the photos, t is unfortunately a small crack in the upper left corner that does go all the way through. It has been professionally repaired however by a jeweler who specializes in vintage jewelery. She has assured me that the piece is in no further danger in that area, and if kept and cared for as all cameos should be, it will remain in tack forever. The frame is a beautiful gold gilt with each "petal" having an etched scroll pattern. The cameo has been signed by the artist, but I am having trouble telling exactly whose read more
