Listed below is the description of this banjo from a recent appraisal:The four string tenor banjo is, in our opinion, a composite instrument with a Vega Whyte Laydie style R neck made in the year 1925 which has been installed on a lower grade student model body probably made in New York City during the 1920s.Description: The Vega neck bears the serial number 65050 on the dowel stick as well as the Whyte Laydie logo and Vega patent dates. The 17 fret short scale maple neck with dark center lamination and ebony fingerboard with white binding, star inlay at the fifth fret position and dot inlays at other positions, star inlay on the peghead appears to be in fine condition with the exception of a hairline crack on the back described by the owner which he says is visible, but not apparent to the touch. The turnbuckle fastener on the dowel stick has been replaced. The body lacks the Vega style R tone ring and has fewer brackets as well as significantly different structure from a genuine Vega body. The instrument is in a pre-World War II soft shell case. Please exam the photos carefully before bidding. I am not an expert on this instrument, therefore have to rely on the description from the professional appraiser. If you have any questions or would like additional photos please let me know. The instrument will only be shipped in the USA read more
