Vintage PairHarvey's Lake Tahoe Tiki Mugs Harvey's Casino originally opened in 1944 in Lake Tahoe. It was operated by Sacramento meat wholesaler Harvey Gross. In 1961, Harvey opened an adjacent 12-story hotel. In 1980, the hotel suffered a bomb explosion that left a crater three stories deep when it was detonated. The bomb was placed by a heavily in-debt gambler in a failed extortion attempt. Harvey died in 1983 and the company continued operation under family management. In 1985, the hotel was sold and a new 18-story, $74 million dollar, glass "Lake Tower" was opened. That same year the trademark "Wagon Wheel" was replaced on the original 12-story hotel with a new Harvey's brand. The original Harvey's had these made for it's restaurant, Top of the Wheel . This auction is for a great pair of vintage tiki mugs from that restaurant. Composition is ceramic/pottery with a textural, wood/tree bark design and two raised Tikis on each mug as well as a vase with a plant and the "Harvey's Lake Tahoe" label. Exterior finish is light brown matte. Interior finish is caramel brown high gloss. The pair is in amazing condition with no breaks, chips, cracks, nicks, scratches or repairs. Minor interior crazing as you would expect from an item some 24+ years old. Measures 4 1/4 inches in height and tapers from 4 inches at mouth to 3 1/4 inches at read more
