Up for auction is a beautifully woven and unusual little woven sweetgrass and ash Indian basket created by a talented artist from one of the Eastern Woodland Indian tribes, probably from the New England area. It would have been for the tourist market and would have been sold as a sewing notions set. What makes it remarkable is the set of miniature sewing baskets attached to the lid of the larger basket. The minis include a scissors sheath, a little button basket with a lid, and a lidded thimble basket. Each mini is tied with a red satin bow, and the ash splints on each basket have touches of coordinating red dye. This is an old set, probably from the 1920's. A beautiful set of little sewing baskets! The foundation basket measures just 5" in diameter at the lid and 1¾" tall. (with the minis, 3½" tall.) This beautiful set is in near-mint condition. Close inspection reveals no breaks or any damage whatsoever. All of the minis still have their little ring handles. This little basket set displays beautifully and will make a very nice addition to a collection of miniature Indian baskets or sewing notions. It's a jewel of a little collection! I accept Paypal, cashiers checks, money orders, and personal checks, although the shipping on an item will be delayed for the check to clear if a personal check is used. I will be happy to combine
