Vintage Japanese ROUND Wood Geta - Red Velvet Straps Yes, this is exactly why you keep coming back to my little eBay store! What a fabulous find! This most unusual pair of vintage Japanese wood geta probably dates to about the 1950's, and I've never seen another like it. When you put the two shoes side-by-side, they make a perfect circle! Oddly enough, they're quite comfortable to wear, too. I wear a ladies 6-1/2, and I fit into them, but I think they'd be just about perfect for a size 6, and maybe work for a 5-1/2, as well. The geta are in an unfinished wood, but smooth and nicely sanded. They stand about 2" high on two wood struts, designed to keep the feet above wet and muddy streets. They have red velvet straps, firmly tied underneath, and the front tie is covered underneath with a little brass toe plate. The old Japanese label is still in place and quite readable, and t's also a stamped chop mark and the hiragana letter for "i". The geta are 9-1/2" long and 4-5/8" wide, and the opening between the back straps is 2-3/4" These would be fine to wear with your favorite kimono, but they would also make lovely decorative accents on a shelf, by the fireplace, or on the wall. And you're not likely to see another pair like them! They're in great vintage condition, too - a few little nicks, and that's about it. You'll love the old-fashioned read more
