Vintage Large Wall Crucifix ~ Catholic Home Chapel 28" This auction is for a VINTAGE Crucifix that is just magnificent. I am not sure of the exact age but my guess would be from the late 1950's. It is quite large, measuring 28" x 14 " x 3". The figure of Jesus is about 13" tall x 11". It would be perfect for a small Chapel but definitely suitable in a nice Catholic home especially if you have a prayer room. The wood cross appears to be made of a soft wood that was nicely stained with a black finish. The Corpus appears to be made of plaster or chalkware, however, when tapping on it, it sounds as though it is made of metal. If so, it is much less fragile than chalkware would be and will last many, many more years. Regardless, the level of detail and workmanship is not what you find in today's figures that are mass-produced. The detail of his face is enough to show you the beauty of this crucifix. The paint looks all original. T are a few spots that look as though they may have been touched up with paint but are hardly noticeable except upon very close inspection. T is still a bit of dust and t that can be removed with a little cleaning, if you wish. On the back t is a hook to make hanging it very easy.
