This item is a vintage medal that recently was purchased at a local estate sale, and its age is unknown. One side shows Mount Vernon, with the words MOUNT VERNON along the upper rim and VIRGINIA along the lower rim. On the reverse, there is a bust of George Washington, with his name along the upper rim and the dates of his birth and death ( 1732-1799) along the lower rim. Appearing to be composed of bronze or brass, this medal measures approximately 1-1/8" in diameter. It was minted in very high relief - and is very three-dimensional. This medal is in very good condition, with no apparent damage or wear. There is some irregularity of color due to toning and/or loss of an original surface treatment.
