Vintage Mexican Hand-Painted Folk Art Olinala Box ChestArtes Folklorico presents a vintage Mexican hand carved and painted Olinala box. This is an early example of Olinala lacquerware is in the shape of a chest or trunk. We date the box to circa 1920s/30s. The piece is very small making this example a rare find. It measures 2-1/2 inches in height, 3-3/4 inches in length and 3-inches in depth. The box is intact with the hinges working well. The painting does have condition problems with some flaking and chipping (see photographs). I guess this is to be expected on a box that is very close to 100 years old. A great find for anyone that collects vintage, old or antique Mexican folk art, Olinala, lacquerware, boxes, chests or trunks.
