This is an Blue & Charcoal Moriage Dragon-ware pattern which is hand made and painted. The dragon has piercing blue eyes on each piece and it looks three dimensional. It has vivid blues,reds, browns, and gold trims. This set is in excellent condition, except for a chip on the bottom of the sugar container. At includes1-6 1/2"tall tea pot with lid, 1-5 1/4"tall sugar bowl with lid, and 1-3 3/4"tall creamer. RS-Made in Japan stamped in red on the backs. A beautiful, unusual set for any collection. A great addition for the Dragon-ware collector Circa. 1952. History of Lusterware:The Japanese painted lusterware by hand which has three different steps itself in addition to the Moriage process. "They paint the basic porcelain in bisque ... bake it, do the design over it in enamels, then go over it with magnesium sulfate, which gives it the luster. "Most Japanese lusterware dates from the mid-1920s through the end of the 1930s. Beginning late summer in 1921, goods imported from Japan were marked "Japan" or "Made in Japan." Goods imported from Japan had a "Nippon" (the Japanese name for Japan) mark between 1891, when the McKinley Tariff Act was passed, and the first part of 1921.The McKinley Tariff Act did not require all goods in a set to be individually marked nor did it require that the mark be permanent.
