Very unique Gaited Horse Plantation Saddle, circa 1900. Could be older. Excellent condition for it's age. Tree is solid, with the original stirrup leathers and metal stirrups. Only has one billet, and after researching this kind of saddle found out that is all it ever had! This saddle most likely was made and ridden in the Mountains of Kentucky and they commonly used a single buckle billet and girth. It is of the Minihan style, but not sure if it is one or not. The lady I consulted with wasn't sure but said that it was from around 1900 and often was ridden with just a gunny sack for a blanket. They were often ridden on Kentucky Mountain Horses to carry the mail, doctor calls, etc. I had a saddle maker clean it up as it was covered in axle grease or bear grease when I bought it. I had wanted to ride it, but would need an overgirth for safety, and since I have other saddles this has been in my collection, and would like to find it a new collector or museum to treasure it. 16 inch seat, with fancy stitching and lots of wear. If only it could talk! Please email questions. I will have to calculate shipping to your location, but it should be around $50 to most US destinations. Insurance is extra. I will send to International buyers but the cost will be more, and all extra fees to be paid by the buyer. Payment is due within 3 days of auction read more
