Vintage Russian Wood Engravings These are very rare very old Russian engravings in wood and are Handpainted. The wood is solid and heavy and is approximately 12 inches square and a half inch thick. The detail is incredible for a wood engraving, the buildings and people are done in great detail and color. The artist was amazingly accurate with the architecture, with the style of the hats and boots the people have on and even the little sleds. Those sleds were commonly used ages ago to transport groceries or even children, some people still use them today especially in the snow and ice. These paintings were purchased in the city of Moscow in the USSR (now Russia) back in the mid 1970's in a market just like the one in the first piece. They were purchased as vintage at that time so t is no telling how old they really are - definitely more than 30 years. They are in great condition, one has a few very small scratches but they both look excellent for their age. One piece is signed on the back, see pics. I have never seen any other Russian pieces like this anyw else so I believe they are two of a kind. Check out my other auctions. I always combine shipping w possible.
