Helloand welcome to my listing for a very nice example o f a 1960s Parker 45 Flighter deluxe fountain pen with smooth 14k Medium Nib, converter and cartridges With its inception in the late 1880s and pro duction conti nuing to this day, the Parker fountain pen brand is arguably the most successful ever. Over more tha n 130 years P arker pens have been innovat ive, beautiful, very well marketed and , owing to the huge range of tastes and budgets catered for one might say, 'all things to all people' (or at least something for most). With the hugely successful and now highly p rized early duof olds, through the iconic and much beloved striped vacumatics , to the world-conquering P arkers 51 and 45, amongst many o thers, the Parker Pen Company has ea rned its place as th e b rand whose name comes most easi ly to the thoughts of NON-fountain pen users. Amongst collectors and users of founta in pens, few wo uld object to the above statements . __________________ This Parker 45 flighter deluxe is in excellent condition , as you can see from the photographs. I still use every day the original one of these I used at school between 1979-1983. It is a pen that has never once failed to start first time and I would not be without one. I find it both elegant and functional. It is an extremely robust pen and one that will outlast any half-careful user. CAP The gold filled pocket clip is in excellent condition , tight to the cap. The cap has no dings or dents or even any scratches of note to the brushed steel finish. Cap fits firmly to barrel over the gold filled clutch ring. SECTION AND BARREL Surface condition of the barrel and section are free of chips and crac ks or repairs and surface condition is ex cellent . FILLING MECHANISM The pen takes either Parker cartridges or uses one of the parker fillers - in this case I have included a Parker aerometric-type squeeze filler as well as a sealed pack of 5 parker blue-black Quink cartridges. NIB A very smooth 14k Medium nib with a large quantity of iridium on the tip. Please see writing sample for a better idea of how this nib writes. Please note, I now do FILL tests rather than DIP tests on all pens I list as this allows me to better check ink flow. I flush with wate r afterwards but it is possible that traces of ink remain. Ink used is a 50:50 mix of Waterman Serenity Blue : W aterman Tender Purple and paper is a Clairef ontaine pad. OVERALL Arguably as much a classic as the Parker 51, this Parker 45 flighter is a fantastic example of one of Parker's best ever workhorse pens. In my view it is also a sleek and beautiful design. This particular version of the flighter is the early one. Later models had a more rounded end to the barrel without the chromed end piece or a plastic end in place of the chromed one present on this model. The solid gold Parker nib finishes this off perfectly.
