Matchlessantiques offers collectors and smiths this PLUMB blacksmith Cold Cut hardy. This hardie came right out of the old blacksmith shop. The hardie has a stamp "7/8" on it for the size hardie hole it fits, and "F.R.P." over an Anchor which was one of the trademarks for Plumb. The cold cut is in great condition with a clean cutting edge that may need just a light touch up. I am leaving that up to the buyer. Please take a close look at the pictures. The anvil is being offered in another auction.Fayette R. Plumb (F.R.P.) began making tool in 1870s with Johnathan Yerkes. Plumb bought out Yerkes half of the business in 1887 and the company became know as Fayette R. Plumb that used an Anchor as part of their trademark. The company was located in Philadelphia, Pa. and remained in business until 1964. Plumb produced quality blacksmith tools and hammers of various sorts.Cold Cut Hardies are a bottom tool used to cut cold metal. The workpiece is positioned on the hardie and struck with a hammer or sledge with sufficient force to make a deep crease. The remainder of the metal is broken at the crease.
