This is a vintage, quite rare, and original example of Frederick Carder's brilliant sense of design. It is a bell-form perfume bottle with knopped stopper, both of blue aurene glass, circa 1910. As no two pieces of blue aurene are exactly alike, the glass produced is always unique. When you slip the stopper in place it has a silk-satin feeling, a wonderfully sensual experience. This is an important piece in the history of Art Glass. The Steuben Glass companyhas begun selling very fine vintage pieces such as this perfume bottlein their Madison Avenue store and on their official Steuben Glass website. To view their vintage offerings you may log onto the site and select "Vintage Steuben" and then "Perfume Bottles." Currently they have only one blue aurene perfume bottle for purchase at $4,500 ( note: this price reflects the rarity of a vintage Steuben blue aurene perfume bottle). This exquisite piece has been in my immediate family since its purchase in 1976, and safely displayed in a closed glass cabinet since. It was authenticated by Sotheby's Auction House in New York City in 1991, by Barabara Deisroth (often seen on PBS's "Antiques Road Show"). In the Steuben bible "The Glass of Frederick Carder" this specific perfume bottle is listed on page 240 as style number 2833 (see photo of the number etched on bottom), with the word "aurene" read more
