Up for auction is a pair of interesting old background buildings that I had on my layout. I bought them on ebay years ago. To be crystal clear, your bid is for both buildings. The bigger one could be a car dealer showroom, drycleaner, or other retail business with large front windows. The other is a two-story brownstone or tenement-like building with nice front steps. These are not the crappy plastic flats from Walthers. These are made of a combination of wood and resin, perhaps with some masonite detail parts- I believe they’re quite old, maybe 1960s or 1970s, maybe older, probably from a kit. I can’t say for sure. They’re heavier than you expect them to be when you pick them up. I’m not sure I’d call their paint jobs professional or expert, but as you can see, they look great if you’re trying to create a city block or a side street. The smaller building needs some window ‘glass’ and might be missing the first floor mullions (horizontal sections in the middle of the windows- see the windows directly above) or maybe they were meant to be one-section windows. In running my finger along their inside edges it feels smooth, so it might have been designed that way. Look at both stories of windows and you’ll see. Either way, there’s some really great brick texture and other details on both buildings- I even added some graffiti years ago. read more
