Vintage 1930-40s GENUINE Black on Black San Ildefonso POTTERY - Fine, traditional hand painted avanyu (water serpent)- nicely done encircling the pottery, with hand coil and pit firing. Nice even black slip. Unfortunately no signature that I could find. HOWEVER, A most interestingfeature is the original price that is written as $ 1 Dx, which I thinkis one dollar. That also seems to date this somew in the 1930s-40s I believe, although I am not an expert. Pictures don't do this blackware piece justice. Nice globe size & shape ~ 5" across, 5" high. The pot still displays very nicely as I have had it on my shelf for some time, and the nick is not very noticeable unless you get close or pick up the pot near the rim. A few minor abrasions as would be expected for this age- not significant at all. As found from Colorado estate. If it were not for the small nick, this pot would be several hundred read more
