BE SURE TO SEE MY OTHER MASKS, TOO I believe that these were produced around the turn-of-the-century (the "old" century, of course), and are RARE... in any condition. I have encountered only a dozen or so of these in my dealings over the years, and this one is quite nice considering its age. Previously (and almost certainly) misidentified as relics of the Masonic Lodge, I now believe that many of these were used for rites and ceremonies among the Odd Fellows IOOF... and I invite you to contact me to continue in this debate. This old hand-made mask is constructed of a wire mesh, much like window screen, and is edged with a rigid, folded strip of thin metal (please note crack at chin). Finally, this version is capped with a silky cloth cap... although I've had otherpieces made with leather caps and even some with full wigs. Furthermore, this extremely creepy figure is heavily adorned with sewn-on hair across the brow, thick eyebrows and facial hair. T are a few spots were the mask has been flexed or folded over the years and slight bits of coloring have fallen off, and slight (correctable) distortions are to be expected from handling and group storage: I will note that the metal strip surrounding the mesh is cracked at the chin... . and I also note a dozen or so small pinholes in the silky cap.
