I am parting with the entire collection of English motto ware my mother has held so dearly since her youth. She begin collecting this adorable pottery at a young age, and she passed away last September, age 76, but was still adding to her collection until she was 74 years old. These were her treasures, and she displayed them so proudly and knew so much about the areas in England of their origin. Most of her collection is from the 1940s and 1950s. The little item on the left in the pictures is a toast stand to hold 2 pieces of toast. It is about 3 1/4" square with 4 sides, and starting with one side, it has the traditional Torquay cottage, the next side to the right has the blue dots, the next side the motto "Take a little toast" and the final side states "St. Ives." The bottom is stamped "Royal Watcombe Torquay." It is in very good shape, and very cute and unique. The glazing is very good. The second piece is a little dish, perhaps for coins or pins, and is 4" wide at the narrow end and 5" wide at the wide end. Above the cottage it reads "T's no fun like work," and it is stamped on the underside "Devon Motto Ware England" with a black stamp and "Watcombe Torquay (and another word, maybe England??)" impressed stamp also. The glazing is very good on this piece also. These two pieces stand out from a lot of the other things mom collected, read more
