The full title page of this complete set on travel, exploration, slavery, politics, early settlers and settlements in America reads; "The Western World; Or Travels In The United States In 1846-47: Exhibiting Them In Their Latest Development, Social, Political, And Industrial; Including A Chapter On California. With A New Map Of The United States, Showing Their Recent Territorial Acquisitions, And A Map Of California." Incredible, 3 volume set takes us across the United States in mid nineteenth century America with graphic descriptions in a first party treatise; personal experiences and travel that we can barely imagine; much of it is not pretty. Slaves and their treatment are addressed in depth with much empathy from the author. Every chapter has numerous sub-chapters and there is so much important historical content it is difficult to fully address the depth of this rare set of books on early travel and conditions in America.
