FANTASTIC EARLY AMERICAN TRAVEL HISTORY WITH TWO FOLD OUT MAPS IN THREE VOLUMES "THE WESTERN WORLD" BY ALEX. MACKAY, PUBLISHED IN LONDON: RICHARD BENTLEY, PUBLISHER IN ORDINARY TO HER MAJESTY, 1849. The full title page of this complete set on travel, exploration, slavery, politics, early settlers and settlements in America reads; "The Western World; Or Travels In The United States In 1846-47: Exhibiting Them In Their Latest Development, Social, Political, And Industrial; Including A Chapter On California. With A New Map Of The United States, Showing Their Recent Territorial Acquisitions, And A Map Of California." Incredible, 3 volume set takes us across the United States in mid nineteenth century America with graphic descriptions in a first party treatise; personal experiences and travel that we can barely imagine; much of it is not pretty. Slaves and their treatment are addressed in depth with much empathy from the author. Every chapter has numerous sub-chapters and there is so much important historical content it is difficult to fully address the depth of this rare set of books on early travel and conditions in America. The Capital Of New England, Boston; Between Boston and New York; New York Its Situation And Environs, Commerce And Commercial Policy Of The United States; From read more
