Up for auction is a small, elegantly carved white OWL fetish by Zuni Pueblo artisan Christine B anteah . This fine fellow stands almost 1&1/2 inches tall and is about 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch around. It is carved from fishrock serpentine with eyes of inlaid turquoise and jet. Although it's not very clear in the photo, the artist has initialed the piece, "CB", on the bottom. This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico. In Zuni tradition, each animal has specific characteristics and powers that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal. The owl can see what others can't.
