Offered is an early edition (may be first) of Henry David Thoreau: WINTER: FROM THE JOURNAL OF HENRY D. THOREAU, edited by H. G. O. Blake, Boston and New York, Houghton, Mifflin and Company, The Riverside Press, Cambridge, 1888. The book is in Good condition. The front end paper is detached, but present. The hinge is cracked, but the spine is still tight. There is an old book store price which is in pencil and can be easily erased. On the inside of the front cover, a previous owner has glued a wonderful old etching of Thoreau (should have taken a photo). And on the back side of the front end paper is also glued another drawing (not so great) of Thoreau. There is normal fraying and wear to the spine and cover, less than one usually finds in a book this old. The book is approximately 5 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches and contains 439 pages, plus 14 pages advertising other Houghton, Mifflin and Company publications.
