This Lionel Coaling Station actually works. I've added a mechanism that releases coal from a hopper. The hopper holds at least three bags of Lionel coal. A controller has a button to open the hopper trapdoor and one to close it. The opening allows coal to fall very quickly. It can be slowed down by reducing the opening. There is a light situated in such a way that every window lights (12-14 volts). Even the two windows trapped back beside the hopper light up. That bulb can be changed by removing a screw in a long wooden piece that anchors the socket. Then the socket will slide out as you can see in one of the pictures above. There is a bulb under the canopy to light up the hopper unloading/working area. The roof can be lifted off to replace the coal. A controller comes with this coaling tower along with wire to reach your transformer--about 3 feet. The controller wire is also 3 feet long. It is fun to watch this tower at work whether in a brightly lit room or on a dim or darkened layout.
