This is a very old Japanese Geisha Pillow. I believe it is post war, but it is hard to date. It is made of woven reed on a wood frame. The bag it was found in is Ryukyu Bashofu. Bashofu is a woven cloth made from Banana fibers. It is very soft and silky to the touch. The pattern is typical of Bashofu patterns. which are normally geometric in design. The bag is not as old, but in wonderful condition. The pillow does have some damage in the open work, but the rest of the weaving is in good condition. It is priced accordingly. It stands 7 inches tall and 9 inches wide. Why did the women use this kind of pillow? Thier formal hairstyles were made by combing thru very thin wax, then molding the hair in place,so if they laid flat it would ruin the shape. (I'm glad they invented hairspray and wigs!) If you haven't bought anything on eBay in awhile, you may have an old mailing address still listed.I happily combine shipping if you bid on and win more than one of my current auctions. I usually list my items to start on Sunday and end on Sunday, so if you see an item you want in the following weeks auctions, I will hold up shipping if you want to bid on another item. If t is more than a dollar difference on the shipping, I will refund your excess funds through PayPal. If the item is flat rate packaged, $8.10, it will be so noted. This is USPS' way of getting more of our money, but it can save you some bucks, if it is a small, but heavy, item. Your item will be shipped US Priority mail unless other arrangements are made. I ship on or by the Saturday following the end of the auction. I will email you when the item is shipped.
