Breakinga long established collection of British World War Two uniforms, equipment and items of interest. This is a rare item of British Tank ordnance being a brass trench art case as used in the 95mm Infantry Close Support Gun. These were mounted on 3 tank types, the Centaur Mark 4 as issued to the unique Royal Marine Armoured Support Regiment their primary role on ‘D’ Day was to provide close supporting fire to the Commando Units. This regiment was the only British formation to solely be equipped with 95mm armed tanks. The armies version of the Centaur was the Cromwell Mark 8 these were issued in small numbers to serve alongside the normal infantry support tanks. The other type as used by the Army Tank Brigade was the Churchill Marks 5 and 8; these were also issued in small numbers to each of the 5 Independent Tank Brigades. The task of these 95mm Gun tanks were if an infantry advance was held up by a strong point that could not be dealt with by the standard gun tanks they would be called forward to use their heavy fire power to destroy the opposition from short range. Condition: this case which carries the marks of 95 MM 1, LOT 230, RLB, CF, 1943 with the primer dated October 1942 is in good order to the body it has become tarnished and dirty and would benefit with a polish.
