WW2 US M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine Stock Interesting example of a M1A1 Carbine stock for the Paratrooper Carbine. This example appears to have been an arsenal re-build. First the specifics: All the metal parts are parkerized, original GI issue. They are not the blued reproduction parts which are available on the repro stocks. The buttplate has the proper numbers and symbols cast into it, the fit of the two wires into the cheek piece metal is tight and fits correctly, unlike the reproductions. The welds on the wires are correct, and not the brazings of the reproductions. What follow are the facts which lead me to believe this is an arsenal re-work, or French re-do: The forestock is stamped SA for Springfield Armory, which did not initially make M1A1s. Furthermore, the forestock has been carefully re-worked from a standard M1 stock into the M1A1 configuration. You can see where the original screw ran unti the recoil plate which is hidden by the pistol grip. Likewise, it has the M2 cut, which would make it late war at best along with being low wood. Additionally, the presence of a second SA stamping next to the first might indicate the arsenal so-marked it after re-working it.
