For Sale is a World War 2 United States Navy dress blue uniform ( jumper and pants ), old style hat and a pair of canvas spats, all original. The spats and hat belonged to my friend's dad but the uniform belonged to another WW2 sailor and has the name "Ralph Wilson" embroidered in the neck area of the jumper. The hat is a size 7 and 1/4" and has the name "W. Neva" stamped inside the leather band. The spats are also have the name "Neva, W" stamped on one and the manufacturer's name is also stamped inside but hard to make out. Spats appear to have some "home stiching repairs" on them but are intact, have all the grommets and brass loops for the laces attached. The dress blue ( almost appears to be black ) uniform was made by Frank's Naval Uniform Co., 201 Sands Street, Brooklyn, N. Y. All of the pockets are fine and t's an inside pocket with a silver zipper that works just fine. The only flaw I could see is right w the "V" of the neck meets at the bottom as it appears some stitching is loose. The pants have all the buttons attached. 13 plus the top button. T's a couple of tags in the top and pants with numbers on them but they could be dry cleaning tags. The uniform has no moth holes or tears and appears to be in great shape. My buddy was moving from his house to an apartment and was emptying everything out, including this uniform and gave it to me. We had gone to high school together and he also gave me his own Navy Whites from his days on the U.S.S. Forrestal that I'll be selling later. ( Yes, he was on the ship with Senator John McCain when the explosion rocked the ship off the coast of Vietnam in 1967. Look for a listing on his uniform soon. ) The uniform I'm selling now appears to have a 29" waist and 30" length. The Jumper ( top ) measures 19" from armpit to armpit. It's just a guess but I'd say the chest size is about a 38"? I'm not a tailor and the uniform gives no sizes. If you tell me w to measure it from I can do that if you email me. The rate of this sailor was Machinists Mate 2nd class i believe. Check the patch and educate me if I'm wrong and I'll correct my mistakes. ( I'm former Air Force and don't know alot about Navy Rates. ) I DO know this uniform comes with an extremely rare amphibious patch that I've seen sold for $36.00 elsew..just the patch! The patch is a U.S. Navy Amphibian Units - British Combined Operations Style Patch and depicts a Thompson Sub machine gun and anchor design, surmounted by a flying eagle. The design is actually a representation of the WW2 British Combined Operations patch, which was worn by British Commandos and Landing Craft Personnel. The U.S. Navy Amphibian Units developed and operated a large number of different vessels which were adapted for ship to shore and amphibious warfare, such as large ocean going vessels like the 325 foot Landing Ship Tank ( LST ), as well as the Landing Ship Dock ( LSD ), the Landing Ship Vehicle ( LSV ), etc. They also trained scouts, raiders, beach jumpers, combat demolition teams, joint assault signals units, beach battalions and Amphibious Medical Units in both the European and Pacific Theatre of Operations . The red patch variation is the most difficult version to acquire and is very scarce and very rare to find! As I said before, I saw the patch alone being sold for $36.00! As Ebay requests a dollar amount I'll throw a number t but will go to the post office with this uniform boxed up so they can give me an estimate on what it'd cost to ship the entire uniform/spats/hat and I'll let you know what the final charge will be.
