Lazy Dog Bombs , also referred to as "Red Dot Bombs" or "Yellow Dog Bombs" are small, gravity-powered non-guided missiles only 1-3/4" long with a 1/2" diameter. They are about the size of a .50 caliber bullet, not including the fins.These missiles were scattered by the thousands over enemy targets with the use of Mark 44 cluster adapters, which were large empty bomb shells that would split open at a pre-defined altitude, spilling the individual lazy dog bombs over the battlefield. Besides being distributed with Mark 44 cluster adapters, they were sometimes simply dumped out of the doors of airplanes and helicopters at altitude by the handful or by the bucket, with devastating results to the targets below.
