For auction is an example of the Peters & Reed / Zane Ware Wilse blue pottery. This Jardinere has a rich deep blue gloss finish with darker specs throughout the finish. It measures just over 5 ¾" tall by approx 8" at its widest. The base is marked with the "Zane Ware" mark - which was used after Peters & Reed transitioned to new ownership in 1922. It is stated that Red Clay was used until appox 1928 thus I date this to be between 1922 to 1928. Around approx 1/3 of the bottom edge (as shown), the glaze has worn away. T is also spot of gloss finish missing on the inside bottom - also shown. The glaze on the balance of the piece is well add. T are few very minor white specs are on the vase and a couple of hard to see scuff marks. T are no chips or cracks and it 'rings like a bell' when pinched. This finish of this vase, along with the same shape in a larger size, is shown in the Ralston book on Peters & Reed pottery, pg 127. We ship quickly after payment - please see our feedback.
