MODEL, YEAR, FEATURES: Zenith made dozens of deco wood cabinet radio models in the 30's and 40's, and this Model 6S527 is a beautiful example. Banding on the wood cabinet, brass framed pushbutton bank, a bright dual pilot lighted dial (see photo), louvers, and stylized Zenith knobs are features that come together nicely on this prewar set. Amazing to think that some family or individual might well have heard the shocking news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor through the very same speaker that's in this radio now. Controls are Volume and Tuning, and each of the six pushbuttons can be internally set to rapidly tune into your favorite stations. Tuning can be done with the standard tuning knob as well when the pushbutton furthest right is depressed. Dial scale has the names of far off countries for the short wave band that this radio receives (5.5 to 18 MHz, or 50 Meters to 16 M in Wavelength), and a "Z" styled brass pointer. Control knobs are Volume, a Band Switch, and Tuning. Just looking at this set evokes a certain nostalgia for a time when things were built to last, and the radio was an item to proudly display in the home.
