Here's an original, antique ROSA BONHEUR parian doll from the 1870s. Rosa Bonheur was a famous French woman painter of animals, who was given government papers to dress as a man. She became so famous that dolls were made in her image. This one measures 16" and has a molded collar and necktie with blue stripes and gold trim. She has a fine high forehead with short blonde hair combed away from her face. All muslin body with bisque hands (perfect condition), and hand stitched black leather feet/shoes. She wears her original slightly worn velvet jacket with brass buttons and striped pants. There is a faint hairline starting at the sewing hole at the front breast plate. It does not show with the jacket closed. For more information; Chapter 6, page 158 of 'Dolls; The Early Years 1780-1880' by Florence Theriault. Also shown on page 92 of 'China, Parian, & Bisque German Dolls" by Lydia Richter. Thanks for looking.
