Amazing Rare c.1905 Steiff 5-Claw Teddy Bear We are thrilled to offer this amazing Five Claw Steiff Teddy Bear, circa 1905. As collectors know, a 5-claw Steiff teddy is extremely rare, especially in this fantastic, near mint condition. Teddy stands 12" tall. He is all original head to toe with the small exceptions of having been cleaned and fluffed and having his mouth stitching re-situated by a well-known and highly respected professional restorer. This bear is absolutely lovely. He features at least 95% of his golden/tan mohair ~ he has slight overall thinning and one bald spot on the back of his head near his neck. He has an unusual cone nose; His paws are quite tapered and pointed at the tips; his feet are large and oval-shaped. (please see photos) Each has 5 embroidered claws. I am sorry I am unable to get truly wonderful photos of the 5 claws, but they are present. Original shoe button eyes; non-working tummy squeaker. Somew along the way he lost his button ~ if he ever had one. All four original felt paw pads are hole-free. In such fine condition, it appears this bear was never played with. Complete with an Evaluation Certificate from well-known collector and appraiser Ken Yenke who refers to this fellow as a "Primitive Steiff".
