Had this made for a Tele project - Incredible unit. From the original listing: Premium Telecaster 5-Way HOoP Tone Upgrade (that's ' Half- Out- of- Phase' for the uninitiated; Position 2 on the selector-switch...) * * * * * INTRO: At last, a well-made control upgrade for your Tele' that will allow it to fulfill the true potential you always knew was there but were not entirely sure how to unleash......and don't let the disbelievers fool you into thinking this is just a gimmick either, not everyone can solder; you only have to remove your stock control plate to see that! Now have a browse through the photo's above of my work to see what a difference quality and attention to detail can make. * * * * * What you get for your money (Standard Control Plate as listed) : Alpha A250k Volume/B250k Tone, 1/4" solid-shaft pot's; true Vintage Mullard Mustard , Mullard Tropical Fish or Soviet K40Y-9 capacitors (0.047uf Tone, 0.001uf/150k Treble Bleed, and 0.01uf in Series Position ( 1) on the switch; Fender /CRL 5-way selector switch; quality Switchcraft- style Electro Socket ( stereo ) output jack ( wired for mono, screws provided ); the latest flexible silicon wire, far more suited to the cramped environment of a Tele' than any of the alternatives (though traditional Fender 'push-back' cloth-covered wire is available for the Purists! ); all mounted on a standard chrome Tele' control plate with chrome metal knobs and black barrel selector tip. A brief note on quality v hype : You will see many people trumpeting the utilisation of CTS pot's like they are some kind of Mojo-Holy Grail. However, having dismantled pot's from every source available I can assure you that there is nothing to choose between one comparable Taiwanese pot. or another. That's right, CTS pot's are made in Taiwan ! Get over it! I use Alpha solid-shaft pot's because I like the look of them, they are well made, they feel good, they work, and my supplier gives me a great deal on the Shipping. The only failures I have had to date have been two A250k tone pot's and a B500k push/pull volume, all from Bourns! Go figure... * * * * * What it does: Switch positions ' 3' ' 4' & ' 5' are the regular pre-67 Telecaster ' Bridge /Both /Neck ' settings respectively, in addition position ' 2' runs both pickups ' Half Out-of-Phase ' for a pleasing ' Pseudo-Strat ' effect, and position ' 1' pushes the neck pickup through the series 0.01uf cap. on the selector-switch for a pretty cool vintage Tele ' Twang .' Recent Feedback reports that ' 1' is perfect for lead work through a 'clean' channel on your amp. and ' 2' is apparently " Awesome " when overdriven... I should point out that I use an 'Audio/Log' ( A) volume pot. as standard, which is more suited to gigging as most of the control is between 7 -10 (or ' 11 ' if you are of a certain age! ); if you prefer a more 'controllable' volume for, say, Studio work please request a 'Linear' ( B) volume pot. ( ALSO: If you would prefer your controls built in reverse, Black Top -style or 'a la' Bill Kirchen, again just drop me a line with your order ) * * * * * Will it fit? The majority of my current control plates need a cavity with a minimum depth of 34mm and a minimum width of 25mm (standard Telecaster dimensions). The C2C of the control plate-to-body mounting holes is 150mm . Your current control plate will be either 32mm or 34mm wide; please let me know which? NB: On some later Tele' models the rout is not the same depth for the full length of the cavity; the middle third is only 25mm (1" ) deep and would need removing to accommodate my standard control plate as pictured above ( or any other non-stock control plate for that matter ). Removing the wood to level the cavity is actually very easy (I have carried out this mod. on my own and customers' guitars several times - see photo's ) without affecting the outward appearance at all.
