Measuring 8" in height with sterling/solid silver trip around the top, and a stoneware body that is decorated with incised pattern of leaves and applied flowers as well as two face cartouches this is quite a special Doulton Lambeth jug/ewer/pitcher. The cartouches are located at the base of the handle and just under the lip at the top. Condition is excellent with the exception of a hole that has been drilled in the bottom. That leads me to believe that it once was a lamp, and the pictures make the silver look like it does not fit, but it does and is original to the piece.. It is as found. The marks on the bottom indicate a date of 1877 and makers marks of an incised "AH" as well as a small impressed "C". Around the silver band are the solid silver touch marks indicating a London maker and the wording "Leuchars & Son, Piccadilly, London & 2 Rue De La Paux, Paris. Shipping for this item within the U. S. will be $9. In answer to a couple of questions, it seems the solid silver trim may be from Sheffield. I thought London at first, but at second look, the marks were not quite right. I do ship internationally!!!! EBay has defaulted to U. S. only when I list, but that is incorrect.
