Fr. 247 $2 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. A splendid, beautifully margined note displaying great color. To date, there have been no higher third party graded examples and there are fewer than a dozen at this grade level. This design earned the number 11 spot on Bowers and Sundman's 100 Greatest American Currency Notes list. The central vignette, designed by Edwin H. Blashfield, is Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Industry and Commerce, also known as Electricity Presenting Light to the World. The design was originally intended for a proposed $50 note, but the denomination was changed to $2. Among his other accomplishments, Blashfield was a muralist at the Manufacturers Building and Liberal Arts Building at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago that was held 1892-93. A fortunate collector will add this outstanding $2 Educational to their collection when this note crosses the auction block. Grade: 675, Service: PCGS, Service No.: 247000
