This is a large Shaker Made Mincemeat Firkin, measuring 13" high, from base to lip, approx, 11 1/2" acros the top opening and 13 1/2" across the base. Firkin has three metal riveted bands. The middle band is solidly in place. The bottom band is loose and can be moved and the top band is loose and can be lifted off of the firkin. Pictures show the firkin with the top band removed. Piece has the original Shaker trade mark diamond shaped bail plates, with metal bail handle and wooden carrying grip. Firkin has staved wooden construction and is in fairly good condition for its age. There are some minor gouges out of the bottom rim and a crack in one of the bottom boards. There is some additional wood loss on a small section of the firkin side, just below the bottom ring. Inside of the firkin is in very good condition, although it has been scraped to remove mincemeat residue. Top edge and inner rim are also in good condition. Firkin retains some of its original green color, although it has considerable fading and wear on most of the outer surface. This would make a great addition to anyone's Shaker collection. It was purchased at auction in the Hudson Valley of New York and has been in my own collection for over twenty years. This item will be shipped within the US only. No international shipping.
