This is a newly made copy of the plinth and dustcover that came with the Empire 598 and 698. There are a few changes, I have used solid American Walnut instead of veneered chip board everywhere except the plinth top. The top is 1/2" veneered plywood to prevent issues with wood movement. The veneer used on the top is a nice quilted walnut. The dustcover hinge system has also been redesigned, the original was very problematic and resulted in most surviving 598's and 698's no longer having function dustcovers. This plinth uses UHMW machined hinges that are made to fit cutout in the dustcover sides. The hinges pivot on 3/8" aluminum trunnions and the hinges friction can be somewhat adjusted with stainless steel cap screws that serve to clamp them. The dustcover can be completely removed just like the original. A removable back rest for the dustcover has also been installed for the cover to sit on when in the open position. The strength of the dustcover assembly is also increased over the original with 3/16 acrylic that is set into deeper dados than the original. The acrylic is pinned with very small brass brads and epoxied in place so it should be much stronger than the original. Tie wrap anchors have been installed in the same places as the original ones as has rubber feet. The 698 turntable shown is not part of the sale it is only shown
