This is a rare photograph of The St. Valentines Day Massacre. The text reads; The St. Valentines Day Massacre With one ruthless stroke, Al Capone assumes undisputed leadership of Chicago crime. On a frigid morning, in an unheated brick garage at 2122 N. Clark St., seven men were lined up against a whitewashed wall and pumped with 90 bullets from submachine guns, shotguns and a revolver. It was the most infamous of all gangland slayings in America, and it savagely achieved its purpose--the elimination of the last challenge to Al Capone for the mantle of crime boss in Chicago. The murder of seven mob associates of the North Side Irish gang led by Bugs Moran during the Prohibition Era. It resulted from the struggle — between the Irish American gang and the South Side Italian gang led by Al Capone — to take control of organized crime in Chicago. Former members of the Egan's Rats gang were also suspected of having played a significant role in the incident, assisting Capone. This photograph is not widely known and as such without having gone through restoration processes has aged quite well, the exposure and contrast has not been altered.
