Ultra rare Hallmarked solid silver boxing trophy presented to apprentice jockey Charlie Smirke. The trophy was won by Charlie Smirke in 1921 when he was apprenticed to the trainer Stanley Wooton at his Treadwell House stables Epsom. The plaque on trophy plinth is inscribed : WON BY CHARLES SMIRKE OF S.WOOTTON'S STABLES EPSOM AT THE N.S. CLUB FOR THE 5 STONE CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE STABLES JAN 11TH 1921 Charlie Smirke was an outstanding apprentice jockey and went on to become a renowned flat racing jockey winning the Derby and other top races many times. During his apprenticeship he became an accomplished amateur boxer. Hallmarks I think are for SHEFFIELD 1921 Trophy height with plinth is ~10.5" and without plinth is ~8.5". It is ~6" wide at handles. In good condition, there are a couple of "dinks" in the top and the base appears to slightly "curl up" on one side. Also I am not 100% sure that the plinth is the original correct one for the trophy as the base does not sit flat (maybe because the base of trophy is not perfectly flat). Weight of trophy on its own WITHOUT plinth is ~472gm. This is a one of trophy which is both boxing and horse racing related. Collection in person is OK if you want to save on postage.
