You are bidding on a very interesting object I have had in my possession for the past 25 years. I believe it is a Whale Vertebra, but I can't say for sure, because I'm no biologist. Back in the early 80's I was a deckhand on a SeaClam boat, when this object came spilling out of the chain bag onto the deck. The item was as black as the mirky depth from which it came. A day or two in the salt air and sunshine was all it took to whiten up to its current condition. We were dredging the bottom off the Virginia coast. I remember that day because it was a warm fall day and the ocean was a deep dark blue, a deeper dark blue than I'd ever seen it. A few days later we were hit with a northeaster storm that was fierce. This item brings back fond memories of my time at sea. As for its condition, it is very sturdy but does have a couple of very thin hairline cracks that run outward from the center on two of the arms, they are not very deep and a couple inches each. Makes an interesting conversation piece. By the way, the baseball is only for scale it is not included in the auction. Continental US only. All sales final.
