Working Dietz Night Watch Lantern ~ Clear Fresnel Lens ~ Syracuse, NY ~ @ 1950 This lantern works. This Dietz Night Watch Lantern in orange/yellow color with clear glass Fresnel lens globe. These lanterns were produced from 1950 to 1956. The lantern is 8.25" tall and the base is about 6.5" diameter. The lantern top has 'DIETZ' stamped in it. The kerosene reservoir has 'NIGHT WATCH'; 'DIETZ'; 'SYRACUSE'; 'N.Y.,U.S.A' stamped in it. The kerosene cap has: 'DIETZ'; 'MADE IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' stamped in it. The heavy clear glass lens has: 'DIETZ NIGHT WATCH FRESNEL SYRACUSE N.Y. U.S.A.' embossed in the glass. The lens does has a chip on the top louver (see last picture) that surrounds the lens, while the rest of the glass is in very nice condition. Night Watch: The Dietz Night Watch lantern was introduced in 19 50 , and was produced until about 195 6. It replaced the Dietz "8-Day" lantern designed in the 1930's, which used the same "Little Wizard" sized Fresnel globe. The Dietz Night Watch was produced with a modified tank common with the 1936 Streamline Monarch and Little Wizard lanterns. Both styles were used as highway barricade lanterns on roadway construction sites. After Dietz bought the Embury Co. in 1953, production of the Embury #40 Traffic Gard continued under the Dietz name, and the less popular Night Watch
