Foremost in this area are the steam boilers and engines which provided the power for the machinery. Boilers which could be either horizontal or vertical, provided the steam which was in turn used by the engine to turn a large flywheel. The flywheel was connected by means of a leather belt to line shafts which ran throughout the mill, factory or machine shop. Each machine in that particular facility was connected to this line shaft by a smaller leather belt. When the belt was engaged, the turning line shaft would power that particular machine. Many machines could be operated simultaneously.The KitThe 1107 is a Vertical Boiler. In the days of steam power, boilers were found everywhere providing steam power for any number of necessary things. The boiler in this kit is 7-1/2 scale feet tall from the bottom to the top of the boiler and 11 feet tall from the bottom of the boiler to the top of the stack.
