14K NATURAL RUSSIAN ALEXANDRITE & DIAMOND RING 2.9 GMS The very rare Natural Alexandrite since its discovery in Russia in 1831 has been considered one of the most treasured and valuable gemstones. This is an exquisite Natural Russian Alexandrite and Diamond Ring cast in solid 14K Yellow Gold and is a size 6 3/4. This elegant piece of Alexandrite estate jewelry has a beautiful oval cut Natural Russian Alexandrite measuring 5.05x2.9mm(.28 points) that is rated Type II clarity VVS. T are also 18 beautiful bright and sparkling Diamonds averaging 1.7mm(.02 points)each that are overall SI1-SI2 in clarity and overall H in color. THE COLOR CHANGING ALEXANDRITEThe amazing Natural Alexandrite is the variety of Chrysoberyl that displays a color change. The color changing Alexandrite was discovered on April 23, 1830 in Russia and named in honor of Czarevitch Alexander Nicolajevitch who would become Czar in 1855 and would reign from 1855-1881. At that time all people even including the Royals used torchlight, candlelight and open fireplaces as t was no electricity at this time. To make this amazing gemstone even more popular, the Alexandrite's colors of red and green were Russia's National Military Colors. Due to the wave lengths of the torch, candle and fireplace lighting, during that period of time the Alexandrites displayed rich colors of emerald green to a deep red violet of a ruby. Today's lighting has embraced fluorescent and soft-white wattage bulbs which do not emit the red wave lengths that the long ago candle, torch and fireplace lighting sent forth so the acceptable change today is from degrees of emerald green to purple or lavender.
