Up for auction is an authentic GENUINE AFRICAN ELEPHANT IVORY TUSK TIP CARVING OF A VILLAGE SCENE. This piece is very intricately carved, and, the crosshatching grain can be seen in a few areas when scrutinized closely, but, with all of the carving activity going on, it isn't obvious. I honestly thought this was a hippo tusk, but, I examined it over and over, and hippo tusk does not have crosshatch type grain, so I am convinced this is the tip of an elephant tusk. The last 3 pics I took show different aspects of the grain in it. You can see it if you click on larger picture. The last pic in particular shows the crosshatching starting on the rim of the tusk. I can't believe they removed all of that great inside material for this, because I am sure this part of the tusk was originally solid. I can also add and remove pics during the week if requested, so you can see whatever it is you would like to see. I could have taken about 50 pictures, but they only allow me 12 and I don't know how to get them to allow more. This piece is 16 inches long, The hollow end of the tusk is 2 and 1/4 x 1 and 7/8 inches, and it weighs about 10 and 3/4 ounces. It has it's own hardwood stand, too, made for this particular piece. It is carved differently on each side, with a beautifully detailed overall look. The piece is not signed, at least I can't find a signature, and it is between 50-100 years old. That I know because I obtained it from an estate lot w the person was in her 90's when she passed away and this was a family heirloom. So, it actually may be older than 100 years, but, I have no way of knowing. I don't really know what else to say, except that I will answer any and all questions within 24 hours, and I am a very serious seller. I take this very seriously, I will give full refunds if you are not happy with the item, and I have never had a negative feedback as a seller-1 as a buyer as retaliation from a seller, but, I won't go into that. Anyhow, I am a buyer also, and I treat people exactly the way I would like to be treated-I ship immediately after I get payment, and I pack your item so it will get to you in the condition it left in. And, I do my best to assure you get what I say you are getting to a tee.
