Young was one of the first advocates of women's suffrage in California, and was an activist for other political causes. Young eventually became a physician, the first woman to receive a medical diploma in California, from the Oakland College of Medicine in 1884. She married William J. Young who was a photographer in Boise City Idaho and Phoenix Arizona, and the couple had a son, Robert E. Bush who was the surveyor during the founding of Point Reyes CA. .--------------------------------------------- History info of Carrie----------- Carrie D. Filkins was born in Scattlcoke New York March 10, 1828. She was the eldest child of George Filkins and Salome (Gardner) Filkins whom are descendants of Henry Filkins, the Founder of the American Filkins family who in the latter part of the 1600s came from Holland to Dutchers county New York. This is a pioneer woman of the Temperance Movement, Miss Carrie D. Filkins. According to notices published in The Freeman's Journal dated January 26, 1855, Miss Filkins toured throughout Otsego County giving Temperance lectures until Feb. 7 1855, which left her free to be at Cooperstown on Feb. 9 to appear with Susan B.
