Young M.D. - San Francisco cal Oct. 7 1871 date lined letter to mother ( Carrie F. Young ) "eddie" writes I would have voted for Newton Booth, that is if i could have voted. , mentions i am going to be a temperance man and a musician for all kinds of instruments. Talk about school and his stamp collection of 30 stamps. Mention of Pa ( Wm. J. Young ) thinks of moving to Bay View the other side of south San Francisco. mention of teacher Mrs. Wheaton...Lower of 3 page and to 4th page From our front window, I can see 2 ships and 4 schooners sailing through the Golden Gate and 1 man of war , 1 ship , 8 schooners at Anchor. I can see the lead Works and Fort point , Black Point and Alcatraz and New Saucelito 1 steamer which runs to Saucelito. About a week ago a government war Vessel came to Black Point and Saluted by all the Forts of the Bay. I could see the shells from Black Point burst over Saucelito high in the air.
