An ORIGINAL excellent 1889 pattern campaign 'snowflake' hat belonging to a U.S. trooper (from Massachusetts?). This original cavalry-used campaign hat is in great condition for its age. It has been in my own collection for nearly twenty years and prior to that it was in a collection for nearly thirty. This hat is the 1889 pattern having a snowflake pattern ventilation on both sides of the cap. The wide leather sweatband is intact and about 75% sewn in place. The silk hat ribbon is intact and in place. Appropriate triple stitching around the brim. There is tracking and some limited damage (holes) in the crown -- but in overall great displayable condition for a hat nearly 150 years old.
