Confederate General Cook - Run Over by a Negro State of Georgia - Office of Secretary of State - Atlanta, GA, August 21, 1891. On official state letterhead. Interesting content letter by clerk, H. W. Thomas, to an unknown recipient regarding the head right grant to George Mizell for 200 acres of land. [Possibly regarding land granted to Confederate veterans.] "...Genl Cook* has refused to grant any such lands - and is sustained in his decision by Attorney Genl. Anderson as you will see by the enclosed circular letter. [not present], Genl. Cook is still confined to his bed by reason of injuries received some six weeks ago by being run over by a hack driven by a careless negroe ." *This appears to be CSA Brig. General Philip Cook (1817-94) of the 4th Georgia. He was a post-war Georgia Secretary of State and member of Congress. 8" x 10", 1 1/4pp. Excellent condition. $3.00 First Class s/h. US only.
