Up for auction today is a Vintage 1898 Badge or Medal from the Kansas City Street Carnival. These carnivals were held annually in the late 1890s, and were tied into the annual Priests of Pallas Parade in Kansas City. The carnivals were originally hosted by the Kansas City Karnival Krewe (who unfortunately sometimes went by the initials KKK), but by the early 1900s the P. O. P. had taken over the event. You can read more about it in Carrie Westlake Whitney's 1908 "Kansas City, Missouri: Its History and Its People." This badge originally hung from a silk ribbon, which is long gone. The star-shaped medal is approx. 1 3/4" square. It was made by Schwaab S&S Co., Milwaukee. The piece is in good condition, with typical light use/storage wear. A cool piece of Kansas City history! Check out my pictures and email any questions. Thanks for looking!
